Back To School DIY: Sharpeners

Hello everyone! Today I will be sharing with you Three ideas on how to create your own sharpeners for the back to school season. You will need very few supplies and very little time. If you would like to know how to make your own sharpeners keep on reading as I share with you how I choose to make it.

You will need:

  • Foam sheets {Yellow, Green, Black and Orange}
  • Paint (Black, White)
  • A small pieces of ribbon
  • Small metal sharpeners
  • Glue
  • Sand paper
  • 2 plastic eggs

The Pineapple

1.  Cut Hexagons from the Yellow foam sheet in two different sizes. Cut the some from bigger size in half.

2. Use the bevel of a hot glue gun or warm up the metal part of a screwdriver to create a hole at the bottom of the Egg.

Wrap some sand paper around a pencil put it through the hole and turn it in a clock wise motion to smooth it out.

3. Use some glue to adhere the metal sharpener to the egg  on the inside. Use a pencil to help line the hole in the sharpener with the one in the egg.

Use a small piece of ribbon to reinforce the plastic “hinge” that help the two pieces of the egg stay together. (The little green stripe you see up there)

4. Use some sand paper to remove the glossy layer of the Egg. Once done start gluing your Hexagons. Place the bigger ones in the middle  and the smaller ones at the bottom and top. {Use the halves around the opening aligning one piece on top of the other to create a full Hexagon when the Egg is closed}

5. Cut a long piece of the green foam and create something similar to the one shown bellow.

6. Roll the piece of foam up and glue it to the top of the Egg to create the crown of the Pineapple.

Voila! Your Sharpener is complete

The Penguin

1. Paint the egg completely Black (Don’t forget to remove the glossy layer using some sand paper to help make the painting process easier)

2 Use the White paint to paint a small oval on the front of the egg.

3.  Add eyes on either side of the Egg with the White and Black paint

4. Add a hole on the bottom using the same method as the Pineapple

5.  Cut the “wings” out of the Black foam in the shape of a tear drop

6. Cut the feet and beak out of the Orange foam

7. Glue the wings

8. Add the feet

9.  Glue the sharpener in place

10. Use a pencil to help guide you by placing it through the hole of the egg and into the hole of the sharpener

11. Add the beak

And voila! Penguin sharpener complete.

The Bunny

Perhaps the easiest one.

1. I used a Bunny object that I had from Easter and  added a hole in the back

2 Add a sharpener, match the hole of the sharpener to the hole of the Bunny

3. Use a piece of ribbon to connect the two pieces together

Voila!

I truly hope you’ve enjoy the tutorial. I had a lot of fun making these. I promise you that they are easier than they look. If you give them a tem don’t forget to tag me so I can see your creation. If you have any question leave them bellow and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
